1. Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping Activity
Language Arts
Standard 3: Listening and Speaking
Grade Range: Foundation (Grade 1-3)
PO LS-F1: Use effective vocabulary and logical organization to relate or summarize ideas, events, and other information
Activity: Have students create a camping book using the vocabulary, ideas, events from the book, and pictures. Have students think about what they would do on a camping trip.
Vocabulary:

Instrustions:
1. Create a three to four page book including a cover and back.
2. Have student write a title on thier books
3. Have students draw a picture (involving vocabulary) on each page of the book and describe in a couple sentences what they do would on a camping trip using on the ideas and events from the book.
4. When complete have student read the book with a family member or friend

Two colored peices of paper

Colored pencils or crayons

Extra: Have students have a camping experience in the backyard or in the living room. Have students pretend they are camping with Amelia Bedelia in the outdoor. What do they want to do? What do the outdoors look, smell, and feel like?

Instructions:
1. Supply students with newspapers and magazines.

Activity: Have students describe the characters (e.g., traits, roles, similarities) within Amelia Bedelia's album in a short summary. Have students create a compare and contrast graphic organizer illustrasting how they are similar to or different from a character in the story using the information from the short summary.
Instructions:
1. Have students describethe characters in Amelia Bedelia's album in their own words.
2. Have students pick one of the characters from Amelia album.
3. Have students explain why they chose the character.
4. Using the compare and contrast graphic organizer, have students find similarities and differences between them and a choosen character.
5. Have students write a short summary using the information they found, and why or why not they are like that character.
*Keynote: Have students look at their own family albums and pictures

Extra: Have the students role play the family members from Amelia Bedelia's Family Album. Have the family members names in a hat and select a few students to pick from the hat. Using their knowledge of the book the students will act out a family member and have the audience guess who they are.
Instructions:
1. Write the names of Amelia's family members on individual strips of paper.
2. Fold the strips of paper and place them inside a hat.
3. Shake the hat to mix the paper strips and have a student pick out a name.
4. Have the student act out the family member on the paper.
(Use prior knowledge from the book)
5. Have the audience guess which family member they are on a peice of paper.
