Peggy Parish is the author of the Amelia Bedelia books. She was born in Manning, South Carolina, on July 14, 1927. She attended the University of South Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She went into the education field and instructed many creative dance classes. After improving on her writing she created the character Amelia Bedelia. She wrote and published twelve books following the character with the help of an editor at Harper.
After her passing on November 19, 1988 her nephew, Herman Parish, continued the Amelia Bedelia stories for her fans and for his aunt. He has written several books following the literal-minded maid.
